Job Description:

Are you a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in the state of Illinois with a passion for renovating and retrofitting commercial buildings to meet modern standards and codes? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Structural Engineer focused on commercial building renovation projects in the vibrant city of Chicago.


Qualifications:
**A valid Illinois Structural Engineer (SE) license is required**

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, but not required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (focused on structural)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong background in commercial building renovation projects.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, or equivalent).
  • Thorough knowledge of Chicago building codes and standards, with a commitment to staying current with evolving regulations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Structural Assessment: Conduct thorough structural assessments of existing commercial buildings to identify structural deficiencies, weaknesses, and areas requiring renovation.

  • Design and Analysis: Develop innovative and cost-effective structural solutions to support the renovation projects, including modifications to accommodate MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems and other upgrades.

  • Compliance with Codes: Ensure that all renovation work complies with Chicago building codes and regulations, and stay updated on any changes in local construction standards.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the MEP team, architects, and other professionals to integrate structural design seamlessly into renovation projects, fostering a collaborative work environment.

  • Construction Support: Provide support during the construction phase, offering clarifications and solutions to on-site challenges, and conducting periodic site visits to ensure compliance with the structural plans.

  • Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, reports, and documentation for permit applications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to local and state requirements.

  • Cost Estimation: Collaborate with project managers to develop accurate cost estimates for structural aspects of renovation projects.

  • Quality Control: Oversee quality control processes to ensure the integrity and safety of all structural elements in the renovated commercial buildings.
