We are a leader in the Renewable Energy (Solar) industry. We are seeking a Senior Relay Engineer to join our growing team.

This is a remote opportunity with less than 15% travel.

Description:
The Senior Relay Engineer is responsible for technical design support for the relay engineering group. The Sr. Engineer will act as design engineer for design performed in house. The Sr. Engineer will also perform the role of Owners Engineer for design produced our contractors. The Sr. Engineer is responsible for scheduling, engineering labor estimate, relay design estimates, relay settings, communication design, and compliance. In addition, the engineer will be responsible for design work in house for select projects.

What you will do:
  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, and schedules relay design work tasks including: project scope development, cost estimating, proposal development, design preparation, and assembling relay packages for commissioning and testing.
  • Leads efforts in the development and implementation of standards for relay equipment, material, design, and construction requirements for transmission substations.
  • Implements the company design processes, procedures, and the use of computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software applications to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in the station design process.
  • Implements the development of relay material specifications, selection, evaluation of materials, and failure analysis to determine root cause.
  • Provides input to budget development related to station design and material procurement for estimators. Aids in cost variance analysis post project completion to improve estimates.
  • Works closely with other engineering groups to coordinate all aspects of solar and battery storage engineering.
  • Acts as Owners Engineer for design work performed by outside consultants. Responsibility includes evaluation of design per scope of work, standards, and error rate.
  • Act as design engineer for design for in house projects for the substation group.
  • Actively participates in industry forums, conferences, and other company initiatives to support us in its mission.

Job Details

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of directly related electric utility or renewable engineering experience.
  • PE or ability to obtain is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electric system components and related communications and protection functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relay protection schemes, inverter-based generator protection, DTT, utility coordination, and communication protocols.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generator stability and dynamic operation analysis. Ability to perform study/ or produce dynamic simulation files preferred.
  • Experience with performing post-fault event analysis preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to model, design, set, and coordinate relays using ETAP/CAPE/ASPEN.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance, process improvements, and standardization activities.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable commercial agility; ability to reorder critical design projects based on new commercial requirements, under tight deadlines and sometimes changing requirements.

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
