Job Details

Summary:
The Senior Associate will specialize in affordable housing finance and real estate, guiding clients through acquisitions, financing, and syndication processes. Represent non-profit affordable housing developers in complex real estate development projects. This role will work closely with lenders and investors to assist clients on structuring real estate transactions utilizing various financing sources including HUD programs, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), California Department of Housing and Community Development loan and grant programs, tax-exempt bonds, new markets tax credits, and local programs across California.

Responsibilities:
  •  Apply advanced legal analysis & transactional skills in real estate, corporate governance, secured transactions, and partnership tax.
  •  Manage workload, supervise project coordinators/junior associates, and build client relationships.
  •  Review LOIs, track issues, spot critical points for partner input.
  •  Master economic projections, identify inconsistencies, solve deal-related issues.
  •  Write opinions with minimal oversight.
  •  Lead/supervise closing logistics (escrow, reports, final docs).
  •  Communicate effectively internally & externally, cultivate client and staff relationships.
  •  Manage time effectively, delegate tasks, oversee projects done by project coordinators, junior associates and administrative staff members.

Skills Needed:
  •  Well-organized, analytical team-builder with good communication and multitasking skills, able to prioritize and balance work alignments and assignments with high attention to detail
  •  Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors
  •  Works well under supervision and independently with ability to liaise among partners, attorneys and clients
  •  Good communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiastic team player attitude and strong work ethic; and
  •  Strong working knowledge of IT systems and typical office software, including Microsoft suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word and Excel); and Google Sheets and Docs

Requirements:
  •  JD from accredited institution
  •  Preferably licensed to practice, or willing to get licensed, with the California Bar
  •  7+ years' experience in an Affordable Housing practice setting
  •  Experience with the acquisition, development, and financing of multi-family housing projects
  •  Experience in negotiating and drafting complex legal documents
  •  Experience with LIHTC and Tax-Exempt Bonds
