Research Engineer (Crypto Protocol)

Crypto startup is looking for a highly skilled Protocol Research Engineer to join their growing team! They are backed by a few top VC's and key players within the crypto space. In this role, you'll conduct research, architect protocols, and implement core infrastructure components that power their network. Their product will enable users to deploy their apps as their own customizable rollups, where they can pick (1) the base layer, (2) the virtual machine (EVM, SVM, Move), and (3) additional modifications for greater value accrual. This is a permanent position in a dynamic and exciting startup environment!

Responsibilities:

• Dive deep into the exploration of decentralized networks, exploring the mechanisms that achieve consensus, the principles of cryptography, and the intricacies of protocol development.
• Innovate and design groundbreaking protocols and algorithms aimed at overcoming the hurdles related to scalability, security, and efficiency within the cryptocurrency realm.
• Develop and enhance the core features and infrastructure of protocols using Rust, focusing on optimizing performance and reliability.
• Craft detailed technical documents, including whitepapers and research findings, to effectively communicate the advancements and designs of protocols to the broader community.

Qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent experience as a researcher at another notable protocol
• 2+ or more years of experience in crypto, with a focus on R&D
• 1+ or more years of experience minimum working with Rust programming language
• BS in CS or related; Master's or PhD in cryptography or similar is a plus
• Experience working at a crypto native startup, preferably blockchain infrastructure
• Prior contributions to protocol design and implementation
• Background and strong understanding of decentralized networks, consensus mechanisms, cryptographic primitives, and protocol-level concepts
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
