This role involves managing vendors, negotiating contracts, and tracking inventory. The Purchasing Agent will also be responsible for analyzing and managing material costs, ensuring that purchases remain within budget, and providing financial reporting to senior management. Must have residential construction experience!

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies.
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation.
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Assess, manage and mitigate risks.
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a purchasing role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as an aptitude for reading the market.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to secure the best prices and terms on products, materials, and services.
  • Solid analytical skills, with the ability to create financial reports and conduct cost analyses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and purchasing software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of residential construction and home building is a must.
  • Ability to manage and adhere to budgets.
  • A keen attention to detail and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong understanding of purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
