A bit about us:

An innovative engineering, testing, and inspection company with 100 years of history, is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support our northern California offices (Sacramento and Concord). Candidates must have a history of increasing levels of responsibility and a minimum of six years’ experience in geotechnical engineering.

This position will be based in Northern California (Sacramento or Concord). Relocation assistance provided.

Job Details

Responsibilities:
Oversee, manage and direct geotechnical engineering evaluations for projects with varying range of complexity.
Provide senior review and oversight of geotechnical engineering practices
Prepare subsurface investigation proposals and assist in the marketing and acquisition of subsurface investigations
Assist in the technical development of engineering staff.
Assist marketing in business development, including attending short-list interviews as geotechnical expert, reviewing and evaluating RFPs/RFQs to help develop proposals and statement of qualifications.

Required competencies:
6+ years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience.
Command of both design- and construction-related aspects of geotechnical engineering.
Experience in shallow and deep foundation design and Caltrans design of bridge foundations, retaining walls, MSE walls, and pavements.
Experience with design of mat-type foundations and development of mat foundation design parameters.
Ability to use Settle3D, Slide, AllPile, L-Pile, Shaft, CLiq, and LiquefyPro.
Experience with field infiltration testing (borehole method, double-ring infiltrometer) and development of design infiltration rates in accordance with guidelines prepared by the various northern California governing agencies.
Exemplary technical writing skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate clearly with co-workers, clients, and potential clients.
Ability to work closely with the marketing group to help acquire geotechnical investigation projects.
Exhibits an advanced ability to analyze problems and develop alternative strategies to solve them.

Preferred competencies:
Experience in site-specific ground motion studies, including time-history analyses.
Experience with cement- and lime-treated mix design and field implementation per Greenbook.
Experience with successful interaction with CGS/DSA/OSHPD/GMED reviewers.
Experience with successful sales and marketing of government agencies for geotechnical engineering projects; and
Demonstrated successful leadership of a team of engineers/soil technicians.
