Purpose of the Role
Plan, coordinate, and supervise company estimating program providing technical and administrative direction to ensure corporate objectives are met.
Functions / Duties
- Manage and administer department functions including operating budgets, staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, performance evaluations, etc.
- Assist corporate and project management to determine what types of projects to bid, strategies, techniques, etc.
- Review all final estimate packages to insure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation
- Participate in presentations to corporate management and Clients. May be responsible for closing the “sale”
- Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required
- May assist in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required
- Act as a Senior Estimator on complex packages or as workload demands
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
- Four year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
- Advanced management or technical training preferred. Extensive (10+ years) experience in similar facility with commercial construction estimating and related functions plus thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts required
- Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision making/problem solving skills are essential
- This position is responsible for scope and quality of department’s work
- Major profit and loss responsibility influencing corporate success or failure
Physical Demands
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:
- Spends approximately 85% of the time sitting, and 15% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
- Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
- Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
- Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
- Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
- Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
