Job Details

Responsibilities will include the following:
  • Execution of petrographic investigations related to concrete and cementitious materials quality and durability as well as aggregate quality and durability.
  • Opportunities for leadership and mentoring of technicians, scientists and petrographers.
  • Development of new business services and revenue streams.
  • Enhancement of growth and expansion of the company.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a petrographer in the construction materials industry preferred.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Geology or Materials Science with a strong background in geological and concrete material sciences.
  • Familiarity with standards and practices relevant to the industry and working knowledge of how concrete production and construction practices and durability mechanisms affect the quality and performance of cement-based construction materials.
  • Experience in supervising and managing aspects of sample preparation for petrographic investigations of concrete and other cement-based construction materials as well as aggregates and other rock products.
  • Complete ease with the operation and maintenance of optical microscopes including but not limited to stereomicroscopes and petrographic microscopes as well as demonstrable facility cameras and photomicrography.
  • Complete ease with the operation of scanning electron microscopes with energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometry and thorough understanding of best practices for chemical microanalysis via EDX.
  • Familiarity with auxiliary analytical methods relevant to concrete petrography including but not limited to X-ray Diffraction, X-ray Fluorescence, and Thermogravimetric Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of image analysis methods and their application to concrete petrography.
