Job Summary
The Controls and Instrumentation Technician will be a critical member of the company’s Engineering &
Construction team, reporting directly to the Director, Platform Instrumentation & Controls. They will
provide instrumentation and controls support for a district energy plant producing steam and chilled
water.
The successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for all instrumentation and controls and
maintaining of systems for the district energy plants producing steam and chilled water and its energy
transfer stations. Will be responsible for process control instrumentation maintenance and programming
of the distributed control system and its peripherals. Will work extensively with Emerson DeltaV, AllenBradley PLCs and other types of logic controllers. Must be able to basic understanding of programming,
troubleshoot and maintain all instruments and logic controllers which utilizes programming languages:
plain English structured text, sequential function chart, function block diagram and ladder logic.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, strong

possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a basic controls and instrumentation foundation.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Inspects, tests, adjusts, and repairs electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments
and systems used to indicate, record, and control.
  • Inspects meters, indicators, and gauges to detect failures and process defects.
  • Calibrate accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, and other
recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system, using
test equipment, such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal
generators, ammeters, voltmeters, and power meters.
  • Plan and schedule corrective and preventive maintenance work orders for all types of
instruments. Work with operations and maintenance personnel to complete work orders on all
types and levels of instrumentation and controls.
  • Will review work orders for completeness including auditing labor hours, parts and contract
vendors.
  • Will be responsible for reconciling work orders with contractor invoices.
  • Will work with management to issue KPI reports from the process control Delta V historian.
  • Program process control loops, tune control loops, be familiar with PID and “cascade” control
loops.
  • Will work extensively with Emerson Delta V, Allen-Bradley PLC or other types of PID controllers.
  • Read and understand PID and PFD diagrams.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering firms to design electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors or vendors in the maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, or
upgrade of all process control systems.
  • Must be proficient with all types of hand tools and power tools both electric and pneumatic. must
be able to work with all types of PPE including (but not limited to); dust mask, half-face respirator,
all manner of hand protection, eye protection and hearing protection.
  • Must be able to perform the following work in a safe manner; overhead, climb ladders, squat,
bend, lift 100 lbs, perform in a confined space, dusty and noisy environment, work outdoors,
plenum spaces, hot and cold environments.
  • Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and over-time.
  • Must be willing to work during all types of weather events including hurricanes and storms.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including; Word, Excel and Outlook. Will
complete maintenance work orders utilizing MPULSE (CMMS software).
  • Will work closely with the operations and maintenance lead personnel along with the Plant
Director.

Job Details

Qualifications & Experience:
  • A minimum 2-year technical degree in electrical, controls or instrumentation engineering.
  • 1-3 years of previous work experience in a manufacturing or industrial process plant environment
is strongly preferred.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a 2-year associates degree in controls or instrumentation and 5
years of experience in process controls and instrumentation in an industrial environment will be
considered.
  • Knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA/DCS hardware and software preferred.
  • Must be able to program PID controls using plain English, block and ladder logic
  • Knowledge of various instrumentation including flow, temperature, pressure and valves.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage
changing priorities
  • Must be able to perform field visits
