The primary purpose and function of the Indirect Tax Director is to lead and manage the Company’s day to day as well as long term indirect tax compliance and related planning in order to ensure timely tax reporting compliance, suggest effective tax planning for PDS and applicable related entities, drive process improvement, and to minimize tax costs and department costs to the Company. You will efficiently lead Indirect Tax compliance, tax research, audits and appeals utilizing enhanced technology and process improvements and will perform other Indirect Tax function duties as assigned by the Indirect Tax Leader.

Responsibilities

Acts as the team manager to oversee and ensure timely compliance with all Indirect tax reporting including development of strategies to increase reporting and deadline management efficiencies and to meet payment requirements, including electronic and manual filings.
Establishes processes and manages outcomes for all new deadlines generated from opening new locations or the creation of new entities.
Drives process improvements, enabling streamlining to achieve operational efficiencies, benchmarking and development of performance metrics.
Utilizes knowledge of tax regulations and taxability decision matrix to perform detailed review and audit returns and workpapers prepared by Tax Specialists in order to meet Indirect Tax filing deadlines (sales & use, property, business, gross receipts, B&O, healthcare tax & other misc. filings). During compliance activity assists with the review of returns and workpapers as needed.
Manages the effective use of the sales & use tax filing software. Trouble shoots any issues for tax specialists and works with the software vendor to successfully resolve all issues.
Prepares/reviews written correspondence with tax agencies, dental offices, and intercompany communications.
Performs complex Indirect Tax research and writes written memoranda. Additionally, provides summary research information in a variety of formats.
Maintains an extensive knowledge of property tax classification categories and trending factors in various jurisdictions.
Reviews tax category classification determinations of Tax Specialists for accuracy.
Develops a working knowledge of business operations and acts as a subject matter expert and guide to tax specialists in order to respond to complex tax inquiries from dental offices and other PDS departments.
Conducts analysis, transactional research and compiles reports utilizing multiple software platforms including Thomson Reuters Compliance, EPIC, and the Oracle Cloud ERP environment. Acts as a super user in these software environments and provides guidance and training to tax specialist users.
Manages state and local tax audits & appeals.

Data analysis skills are very much needed as we tend to have a lot of items come up that require planning, critical thinking, and developing of methodologies to get us answers. A few examples would be- ASC 450 exposure analysis, budget and cash forecasting, process improvement driven by cost analysis, etc.
