Job Details

Duties:

* Perform field investigations and conduct failure analysis of mechanical systems and components in commercial, residential, and industrial settings.

* Analyze mechanical failures, gas-related incidents, fires, and explosions to determine causation, including product liability, construction, or design defects.

* Inspect loss scenes and assess damages at various types of buildings, including residential, commercial, and industrial structures.

* Investigate and evaluate evidence related to failures, providing insights to insurers and offering litigation support.

* Document findings and conduct thorough analysis of failure modes and causation.

* Utilize laboratory facilities to examine and test evidence, researching products, installations, and maintenance practices relevant to findings.

* Collaborate with fellow experts to produce comprehensive reports detailing the origin and cause of losses and damages.

* Serve as an expert witness during court proceedings and/or depositions.

* Maintain accurate records of billable hours for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects, adhering to time and expense guidelines for clients.

Experience needed:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting investigations into construction failures, with a focus on civil or structural engineering aspects.
Demonstrated expertise in analyzing construction failures, including structural collapses, foundation issues, and material deficiencies, across various construction projects.
Proven track record in inspecting loss scenes and evaluating damages at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, with a keen eye for structural integrity.
Strong background in investigating and assessing evidence related to construction failures, providing insights to insurers, and offering litigation support.
Proficient in documenting findings and conducting thorough analysis of failure modes and causation, particularly in relation to civil and structural engineering principles.
Experience in utilizing laboratory facilities to examine and test construction materials, components, and systems, researching construction practices and standards relevant to findings.
Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with fellow experts, architects, and construction professionals to produce comprehensive reports detailing the causes of construction failures.
Previous experience serving as an expert witness during court proceedings and/or depositions is highly desirable, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
Familiarity with maintaining accurate records of billable hours for investigation and forensic engineering projects, adhering to time and expense guidelines for clients and legal proceedings.
