Estimator

We are a long-standing General Contractor base in Des Moines, Iowa with an amazing reputation throughout the Midwest! We are looking to add an Estimator to our preconstruction/estimating team as we continue to grow and our pipeline expands.

This role will report to the Estimating Manager, who is a very active participant in the day to day, and will still be in the weeds on bids with the team!

Job Details

We are seeking an Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction team out of our Des Moines area office! The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for various construction projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and contributing to the overall profitability of the company.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and architects during the process of estimating the cost of a project
• Develop comprehensive understanding of project strategy and deploy this throughout the estimating process
• Conduct thorough risk and opportunity analyses for each estimate
• Use your expertise in construction estimating to provide insight and guidance on large-scale projects
• Utilize your knowledge of AutoCAD to create and revise construction plans and blueprints
• Participate in project bidding, ensuring our proposals are accurate, competitive, and profitable
• Apply value engineering principles to propose cost-effective solutions for construction projects
• Collaborate with the procurement team to source and acquire high-quality materials within budget constraints
• Regularly update all company databases with current estimate information

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as an Estimator, preferably with a General Contractor but candidates coming from Subcontractors will also be considered
• Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of management
• Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
