Position Overview

Description
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Maintenance & Engineering, the Director of Maintenance and Engineering is responsible for day-to day performance and the strategic direction of the Maintenance, Utilities, Buildings and Engineering departments, providing leadership, talent acquisition and development, operating and capital budgeting/management and continuous improvement. This position will have multi-building oversight at our facility in Lathrop, CA.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead and direct engineering, maintenance, utilities and building departments.
  • Responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and addressing all plant maintenance issues with Operations Management and working in collaboration to drive improvements across the manufacturing lines.
  • Provide maintenance and reliability day to day and strategic leadership with a specific focus on creating proper preventive maintenance programs and implementation
  • Ensure staff work safely and in accordance with all policies, laws, and regulations. This includes ensuring facilities and machineries follow all applicable safety and environmental laws within city, county, state, and federal regulations.
  • Establish operational safety policies and procedures to prevent incidents / accidents and ensure consistent compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Coordinate response and actions for emergency situations.
  • Recruit talents, develop staff and improve employee engagement and teamwork
  • Ensure maintenance and engineering departments are properly staffed and organized with required skills, talents and motivations corresponding every changing customer’s needs
  • Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets in most cost-effective way
  • Ensure compliance with internal Food Safety and Quality Policy and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard. The CNP facility is an SQF facility.
  • Provide leadership around engineering projects with the engineering team (and contractors); from design to complete implementation. Guide the specification and selection of manufacturing equipment/utility equipment and engineering contracts based on comparative bids and analysis
  • Create and support strategic plans for process and plant improvements to improve OEE, yields and drive down costs
  • Optimize documentation systems and processes for maintenance and engineering
  • Communicate with partners and clients to identify and implement any necessary equipment or capabilities for new products
  • Continuously improve maintenance and engineering policies, procedures, and performance.
  • Utilization of our CI tools, which includes Redzone to drive continuous improvement practices with the departments
  • Capability in managing a large and fluid department with a big-picture mentality that can create a vision and mission for the department
  • Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians
  • Ensure that appropriate professional development activities are provided for personnel
  • Set challenging performance standards and manage/develop reporting mechanisms to meet reliability/line efficiency success factors and associated goals. Ensure the highest possible standards of performance are monitored across the Engineering and Maintenance function with collaboration of the other CNP business units
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, related field, or progressive experience
  • 7-10 years previous engineering and maintenance management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Proven ability to work with process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee development
  • Proficiency using a PC and Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent mathematical, verbal and analytical skills
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to speak to a diverse audience spanning from staff to executive levels
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of the Department’s staff and other external entities and bodies
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, manage and lead staff in managing maintenance and engineering department.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma training and experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in bottling, pasteurization, and/or aseptic processing & packaging is strongly preferred
  • Master’s degree in engineering or Business Management
  • 3-5 years of experience in CPG and/or FDA-regulated manufacturing industry
  • Proficiency using Auto-Cad

** Salary is $160-170K + 12% bonus eligibility
