Essential Functions / Duties

Production and Process Development
  • Accept responsibility for your safety and the safety of others by using safety awareness tools to eliminate unsafe acts and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Quote potential work for contract manufacturing (e.g., estimate setup and cycle times, tooling, fixturing, and material requirements, etc.)
  • Determining Tooling and Raw Material size requirements for machining processes based on finished product, fixturing, and workholding requirements.
  • Purchase tooling to meet product requirements and result in reliable/sustainable machining processes (e.g., mitigate tool breaks and wear)
  • Perform CNC programming and troubleshooting, and manufacture standard production and prototypes utilizing solid modeling and CAM software.
  • Manage CNC programs (e.g., saving current version, transferring it to machines, controlling updates/revisions to the master copy, etc.)
  • Manage tooling/fixturing inventory to assist with setup reduction efforts (e.g., 5S)
  • Sourcing new cutting tools, workholding, auxiliary equipment to reduce cycle time or increase production capabilities (e.g., manufacturing engineering efforts)
  • Accountable for the documentation of process sheet instructions, prints, tool lists, and inspection procedures to verify sequence and conformance to requirements.
  • Lead the culture of 5S by creating an orderly work area including machining equipment and tooling.
  • Resolve machining problems and capture opportunities to achieve the current production schedule.
  • Machine parts, fixtures, tooling with manual lathe, mill & grinding to support prototype and standard production.
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering to optimize new product design concepts for manufacturability.
  • Assist in the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques to support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Utilize precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during and after machining.
  • Monitor machining operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks before, during, and after operations on machine centers.
  • Visually inspect small tools and tooling kits to ensure correct tooling, sequence of use and tool offsets.
  • Support the implementation of SPC to ensure that machines and processes are operating predictably.
  • Understanding engineering drawings, especially orthopedic medical device implants and instruments.
  • Understand tolerance range by interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) design specifications to optimize machine fixturing and programming.
  • Vigilance in observation of and analysis of potentially hazardous conditions in the areas of production.
  • Documentation of “fail safe” attributes of products and processes.

Recommended Education / Experience
  • Education: 2-year associate degree in CNC or equivalent technical discipline preferred
  • Experience: 10+ years of CNC programming experience with Medical Device Implants and Instruments (or equivalent) preferred
  • Proficiency in CNC Machine tool platforms ex: Tsugami Swiss Lathe with Fanuc Controller, 5-axis milling on various platforms (HAAS Minimill, VF-1, VF-2SS, Okuma M560-V; Fanuc Robodrill)
  • Thorough understanding of production and product development regulations;
  • Proficiency in CAD and CAM software, quality control processes, and MS Office applications.
