Overview
Senior Project Engineer (SPE) is accountable for the successful execution of ecosystem restoration design plans across multiple geographies. SPE is the lead role in technical site assessment and evaluation, design plan development, and construction management/oversight. The SPE reports to the VP of Ecosystem Design and has key working relationships with designers, project managers, land representatives, and MIH. The SPE is also responsible for engineering related task supervision and mentoring of assigned design staff. Key responsibilities, reporting, and performance metrics are summarized below.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as design lead primarily responsible for overseeing geomorphic assessment, design plan development, permit application and approval, construction management/oversight, and as-built drawing review.
  • Perform engineering calculations, hydrologic & hydraulic analyses/modeling, and restoration designs that meet regulatory (i.e. federal, local, state) and industry standards.
  • Support land representatives by identifying and evaluating prospective mitigation sites, both technical design approach and financial credit yield.
  • Assist with conceptual design plans, cost and quantity estimates, and site evaluations to help project managers develop project budgets, design and construction schedules, and financial models.
  • Develop and oversee implementation and compliance of design plans, technical specifications and other engineering QA/QC protocols.
  • Seal engineering work performed under direct supervision and responsible charge in state of licensure and on behalf of WLS Engineering, PLLC (WLSE).
  • Supervise and mentor junior design staff with engineering related tasks, technical training, career planning and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including MIH, staff and attending client, regulatory, and landowner meetings as needed.
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities such as industry conferences, technological advancements and approaches related to ecological restoration, stormwater management and water resources engineering.
  • Develop protocols with CAD analysts and design staff to improve design plan quality, accuracy, efficiency, and internal communication.
  • Participate in workflow management, staff recruitment, hiring interviews and recommendations.

Reporting and Performance Metrics
The SPE reports to the VP of Ecosystem Design and is expected to provide weekly and monthly updates to project managers and MIH as needed. The SPE will manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines by working collaboratively with the team as well as independently. The SPE will also coordinate bi-weekly with other staff to provide task updates related to design and construction schedules. In addition, any significant issues may be discussed with the VP of Ecosystem Design on an as-needed basis.

SPE performance metrics will include, but not be limited to: design accuracy and technical efficiency/productivity, completion and success of design related submittals and attainment of individual and division goals.
