About the job
The Application Engineer provides chemical engineering knowledge and support to the sales team to drive our growing business. Working on bid proposals, the Application Engineer is responsible for the process design of mixers, tanks, and systems to deliver against the need of our manufacturing customers. This role is responsible for:


Defining a process design which meets the requirements of the proposal or project.
Developing quotes delivered on a timely basis that will meet the performance, timing, and cost requirements of the customer.
Providing technical support regarding process design aspects throughout sales lifecycle.
Undertaking other technical tasks as required (e.g. site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc.)


In general, the Application Engineer will work as part of a team and will collaborate closely with other team members and functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the quote or project. The role will be located our Jeffersonville, IN location (Greater Louisville Area) and is an on-site role.


The preferred candidate for this role would be a person who has a Chemical Engineering degree and worked for a production facility or Engineering Services firm for 3+ years. This person needs to be organized to manage multiple quotes and customers at the same time, possess strong attention to detail in their analysis, and able to positively collaborate with customers, sales, and engineering to optimize proposals.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Application Engineer’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:


Gather process requirements from the customer and MXD Process account executives, review all provided documentation, and request any needed information.
Complete design calculations (e.g. mixer sizing, tank optimization, thermal calculations, etc.) to support process design and equipment selection) using MXD Process defined work processes, tools, standards, and best practices.
Generate process solutions and define their characteristics which may include: process flowsheets, P&ID diagrams, equipment specifications, equipment list, process descriptions, functional design specifications, process operating instructions, KPIs / expected performance, product input/output requirements, and/or utilities requirements
Ensure designs comply with local legislation and regulations (for the locality of the plant/process) which apply to engineering design (e.g. FDA, ASME)
Provide recommendations to optimize process designs to improve throughput and manufacturing costs over time.
Ensure that all quotes and design information is captured, stored, and maintained, in the allocated location, in a structured and accessible fashion to document the design decisions and support engineering once the project is sold.
Clearly communicate with all stakeholders in a timely fashion, including sales, marketing, new product development, and engineering.
Maintain expert level of product knowledge and constant interaction with the engineering department.
Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the company’s core values.
Travel less than 25% to other MXD Process locations, trade shows and customer sites.
Other duties as assigned.

Strong technical skills, especially in solving engineering challenges.

Ability to build and maintain high quality, long term, and professional business relationships with vendors, customers, and other employees.
The ability to meet high performance standards in a team while maintaining ethics and integrity in accordance with MXD Process corporate values.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or process engineering discipline. Degree may be substituted with 10+ years of related experience in process and application engineering.
At least 3 years of chemical or process engineering experience in Specialty Chemical, Cosmetic & Personal Care, Food and Beverage, or liquid processing industries.
Experience of working within technically oriented teams
Good level of competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) and advanced competence with Microsoft Excel.
Experience with SOLIDWORKS and computational fluid dynamics simulations would be beneficial.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

In general, this is an office-based job with a considerable amount of time spent at a computer. Ability to travel to other MXD Process locations and customer sites is a requirement. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to travel within North America up to approximately 25% of the time.
